Dean's rivals: Gore endorsement aside, not a vote has been cast yet

An AP News Analysis
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jilted by former Vice President Al Gore, Howard Dean's eight Democratic rivals forged ahead with their campaigns, taking heart in the fact that not a single vote has been cast.

"I don't think that this endorsement makes Howard Dean any more electable than he was yesterday," said Erik Smith, spokesman for Dick Gephardt, who is in a tight race with Dean in the Jan. 19 Iowa caucuses.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, who didn't even get a courtesy call before learning that his former running mate was endorsing Dean, said calls from supporters poured into his campaign Tuesday and he raised more money than in any other day this quarter.  "Here's the emotion I feel: Determination," he told reporters in Durham, N.H., before the Democratic presidential debate Tuesday night.

Lieberman explained that had recently taken to stating his emotions because crowds, and persons standing next to him, were having trouble distinguishing "Angry" from "Concerned" and "Euphoric," given the Senator's droning speech patterns and New England affect.

Lieberman said he had been energized by the $312 his campaign took in after the news broke, and immediately authorized the printing of another 75 bumper stickers.  His volunteer staff, who had hoped that at least part of the funds could be used to re-stock the staff washroom with paper products, were reported to be in mixed spirits. (ed. note: You had "into the mixed spirits already," which sounds ungrammatical)

The message of continued defiance was the same at John Kerry's campaign HQ.  "We respect Al Gore and what he's done for this country, said Kerry Chief of Staff Amarillo Slimfast, as he churned out copies of his resume on the office LaserJet, "but this campaign is about future possibilities, not past accomplishments."  He then asked this reporter if the Dean campaign was hiring.

The Reverend Al Sharpton, noting that both Gore and Dean went to exclusive private Prep Schools, dismissed the endorsement as "Uptight WASPS of a feather flocking together."  Carol Moseley-Braun, reached at her home, initially asked "Why are you calling me for a comment?"  Reminded that she was a declared candidate, she replied "Are you sure?  Let me check my Blackberry."  Dennis Kucinich angrily denounced the move as "People with four-letter last names sticking it to the polysyllabically-surnamed working man."

Remember, Kids, the part in
bold is actual 100% news-flavored media product.
The rest is the fakey part.
